Case of extortion

GORKHA: The Young Communist League cadres have been extorting money from tourists here. Recently, the YCL cadres forced a French tourist to pay Rs 1,100 by threatening to bar him from going towards Larke pass from Gorkha district headquarters, police said. The foreigner paid the money to the YCL cadres at Keradhari of Warpak village development committee, eyewitnesses said. The YCL cadres have also issued him a receipt in the name of Tamuwan Autonomous Region. — HNS

Abductee escapes

BARA: One Lab Babu Shah, 22, of Prastoka village development committee -3 of Bara district was able to flee from the captivity of unidentified abductors just half-an-hour after he was kidnapped on Monday night. Shah, the owner of a motorcycle workshop at Parwanipur of Bara, was abducted at 8 pm on Monday night. Four armed motorcyclists had kidnapped and taken him towards east but he was able to escape from the captivity near Basdilwa village after the motorcycles lost balance. He contacted his family on Tuesday. — HNS

Demonstration held

BARA: The Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-Goit on Monday night set ablaze the national flag at Parawanipur and Dohori of Bara district, co-ordinator of the Bara district JTTM-Goit, Birat, said on Tuesday. The JTMM-Goit cadres also fired in the air and staged a protest rally, eyewitnesses said. — HNS

Youth abducted

SIRAHA: Cadres of the Young Communist League, the youth wing of the CPN-Maoist, on Sunday night abducted one person from Badaharamal-5, Bastipur Chock. According to a family source, Maoist cadres abducted Bechan Yadav, 24, a resident of Chikana ward no 2. YCL president Jagat Yadav, however, claimed that his organisation has not abducted

24 hurt in mishap

DHADING: As many as 24 persons were injured when a microbus heading towards Kathmandu from Tulsipur of Dang overturned at Chambas of Gajuri VDC-2, Dhading, on Tuesday. Three of the injured are reported to be in critical condition, police said. According to Area Police Office, Gajuri, the microbus overturned at 4:45 pm after driver lost control and most of the passengers were hurt. The injured were treated at Gajuri based primary health centre and sent to Kathmandu. — HNS

Karna’s demand

BIRGUNJ: Joint-president of the Rajendra Mahato-led Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi), Laxman Lal Karna, on Tuesday said the party’s agitation would continue until the Madhes is declared an autonomous region. Speaking at a meeting of party’s youth cadres on Tuesday, he said the NSP (A) would launch another agitation to bring an end to the 240-year long slavery. He laid emphasis that the nation should be divided into three regions based on culture and language. “The NSP (A) will launch phase-wise agitation after Chhath festival. — HNS

Road link to Jomsom

Myagdi: Jomsom will be linked to the national highway by November 16 this year. Only three km of the 78-km Beni-Jomsom road remains to be completed and the same is expected to be ready by mid-November, according to the Nepal Army camp at Ghansa which has got the contract for construction of the Beni-Jomsom road. Locals of Mustang are hopeful that apples, mountain goats, woolen rugs and medicinal herbs from their district would find access to market once the road is open. — RSS
