House panel hearing

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee will conduct hearing on the proposed ambassadors and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) job holders on Wednesday. Meanwhile, on Monday the two sub-committees formed to investigate into the compalints against NHRC nominees and proposed ambassadors on Tuesday submitted thier respective reports. — HNS

NPU convention ends

Pokhara: The sixth national convention of the Nepal Press Union (NPU) that concluded here on Tuesday elected Sameer Jung Shah as its chairperson. Shah received 205 votes, while his rivals Gokarna Aryal, Murariraj Sharma and Kedar Subedi got 131, 127 and 29 votes respectively. Damodar Dawadi was elected senior vice-chairperson with 282 votes while his nearest rival got 138 votes. — HNS

Bandh claims life

SIRAHA: One Muneshwor Gaderi, 55, of Belha-8 died on Monday night due to lack of timely treatment. There were no vehicles on the road due to the bandh called by the Madhesi Mukti Tigers, so Gaderi, who fell unconscious all of sudden, could not be taken to hospital for treatment, family sources said. —HNS

Hooch kills one

MAHOTTARI: Thirty-seven-year-old Shreekisan Sada, a resident of Mahottari VDC-5, died on Tuesday after consuming hooch in Mahottari bazaar. Police expressed its ignorance about the incident. — HNS

Cop feared drowned

CHARIKOT: A policeman at the Kirne Post, Surke Majhi, has gone missing in the Tamakoshi river. Majhi had gone to the river to take bath at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, but never returned, DSP Surendra Mainali said. — HNS

UML leader abducted

BIRGUNJ: An unidentified abducted a CPN-UML local leader Umanath Dhungana, 60, from his house on Monday night. The gang barged into Dhungana’s house by breaking the wall and also took away jewellery and other belongings, a local teacher Mahendra Chaudhari said. — HNS
