Docs’ strike called off
DAMAK: The indefinite strike called by the Mechi chapter of the Nepal Doctors’ Association (NDA) has been called off for three days. A meeting held in Birtamod of Jhapa on Friday made a decision to this effect. Representatives of the Mechi NDA, political parties and local administration took part in the meeting. — HNS
Govt appointments
KATHMANDU: The Cabinet decision on Wednesday has appointed Ishowor Chandra Gyawali of Rupandehi as chairman of the Motion Picture Development Board (MPDB) for two years, the Ministry of Information and Communications said on Friday. Ram Sharan Karki has been appointed Executive Director of Radio Broadcasting Development Committee (Radio Nepal) and Pradip Lama Bamjan (Tamang) has been appointed Member of the Management Committee for two years. Other members of the MPDB are Shiva Lamichhane of Kaski and Bipana Thapa of Kathmandu. On Thursday, the council of ministers decided to appoint Shyam Sapkota of Kathmandu and Indra Bahadur Thing (Chhintang) of Kavrepalanchowk as the members of the Central Motion Pictures Investigation Committee. — RSS
Seven hurt in clash
JANAKPUR: Seven persons, including a policeman, were injured in a clash between agitators and police at Shiv chowk and Janak chowk of Janakpur municipality on Thursday night after some youths teased some girls. The dispute over the issue took an ugly turn and erupted into a full-scale clash. Police fired three rounds of teargas shells to disperse the combatants and also mounted repeated baton charges. — HNS
