JTMM-G man killed

BARA: Twenty-four-year-old Arjun Sahani, of Bara’s Gadhhal, died after being shot at during a retaliation on Wednesday, senior superintendent of police at the zonal police office in Birgunj, Ramesh Bajracharya, claimed. Coordinator of the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Goit) in Bara, Birat, told the local media that Sahani was a militiaman of the morcha. Birat also claimed that he was killed by the YCL and police. Police said a cadre of the Morcha was also nabbed with arms during the incident. The incident site lies 12 km east of Kalaiya, the district headquarters of Bara. — HNS

MADHYAPUR THIMI: A total of 358,548 children have been benefited from the Food for Education Programme in the fiscal year 2063-64 BS launched by the Food Programme Project for Education. The enrolment of students increased due to the programme that was run in 21 districts, namely in Dhanusha, Parsa, Rupandehi, Pyuthan, Salyan, Surkhet, Dailekh, Rukum, Achham, Doti, Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Bajura, Darchula, Bajhang, Jajarkot, Makawanpur, Udaypur, Ramechhap, Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts. — RSS

Abductee freed

LEKHNATH: One Dhan Bahadur BK of Chapakot VDC-5 in Kaski district, who was abducted on Tuesday, was released on Wednesday with the joint initiative of police and cadres of the Young Communist League. BK was released from Gahate of Mijure VDC. Rajesh Chhetri, Sunil Acharya and Prem Tamu of Khudi in Lekhnath had abducted him. — RSS

Maoist action

KATHMANDU: The Lalitpur District Organisation Committee of the CPN (Maoist) has taken disciplinary action against its member Bhimsen Ghimire, alias Bipin, and scrapped his general membership. According to Hari Dahal, secretary of the District Organisation Committee, Ghimire was asked to bring a pistol from a village and hand it over to the administration, but he misused it. Dahal said the CPN (Maoist) was studying Ghimire’s activities following reports of his misconduct. Bipin was arrested from the Lumbini Rodi Club in Kupo-ndole with a pistol on Monday. — HNS

American library

KATHMANDU: The American Library at the new embassy compound in Maharajgunj is to open from Thursday, the Embassy said. The Library has a collection of more than 6,000 books, 600 videotapes, 75 periodicals, 700 CD-ROMs and five on-line databases. The Library opened in Kathmandu in May 1952. — RSS
