PLA men open fire

BARA: Fighters of the PLA second division, who were heading to Sindhuli from Kathmandu, fired two rounds in the air at Bridge no 2 in Amlekhgunj on the Tribhuvan Highway on Friday. Murali Karki and Sakuman Lama of Amlekhagunj were hurt. — HNS

Korean unity pledge

KAVRE: Newly-appointed North Korean ambassador to Nepal Jang Yong Jol said at a programme on Saturday said that North Korea and South Korea would be unified soon. Stating that the government of Nepal is in favour of the peaceful unification of both Koreas, Education Minister Pradip Nepal said that Nepal was in favour of making North Korea an atomic energy-free nation. — HNS

Tremors felt

PHIDIM: Earthquakes hit various places of Panchthar and Taplejung at around 8.21 pm, leaving residents scared. Hundreds of people rushed out of their houses. Panchthar CDO Hari Krishna Upadhyaya said because of lack of a Richter Scale, there was no means of knowing what magnitude of quake hit the district. No damages were reported. — HNS

UNESCO programme

LALITPUR: Central member of the Nepali Congress, Arjun Narsingh KC, said at a programme of UNESCO on Saturday that polls will not be successful if parties fail to express commitment towards the polls and did not make preparation for them. — RSS
