One drowns, 2 missing

SURKHET: One person died and two went missing when the flooded Khorke river in Birendra Municipality swept away the tractor they were travelling in on Thursday evening. Driver, Raj Kumar BK, and passengers Shiv Giri of Birendranagar Municipality-2 and Dil Bahadur BK of Birendranagar Municipality-6, were swept away when they tried to cross the river in the tractor, police said. Another passenger, Raj Bahadur Batha, managed to swim to safety. — HNS

Curfew lifted

BIRATNAGAR: The Morang district administration lifted the curfew on Friday in Indrapur VDC and areas adjoining Mahendra Highway at 8 pm. Curfew was imposed on Thursday at 8 pm after locals clashed with activists of the Sanghiya Limbuwan Rajya Parishad and Khambuwan Rastriya Morcha. Chief District Officer Madhav Prasda Joshi said curfew was lifted as the situation had returned to normal. Meanwhile, the Parishad and Morcha on Friday withdrew their bandh called three days ago, a report from Itahari said. — HNS

Soldier jailed

BAGLUNG: A Nepali Army soldier of the Myagdi district-based Bajradal Battalion was sent to jail on Friday for shooting a 14-year-old girl, Kamla Shahi, dead on June 24. The Myagdi district court said Bhim Bahadur Thapa was found guilty of shooting Shahi. — HNS
