Manipal strike

Pokhara: Physicians of the Fulbari-based Manipal Medical College continued their agitation today. Demanding security, they had begun an agitation on Friday, after a relative of a patient manhandled a physician on duty. Services at the hospital have been disrupted. On an average, 500 patients used to visit the hospital daily. However, the hospital said it is open for emergency services. Physicians at the hospital said acting medical superintendent Dr ML Panani and four other staffers of the orthopaedic department were manhandled. The agitating physicians have said they will not go back to work unless security is guaranteed to them while they are on duty. — HNS

Three commit suicide

CHITWAN: Three persons committed suicide in Chitwan district on Friday night. According to the District Police Office, Chitwan, Ganga Prasad Shrestha, 60, a resident of Bhojad of Bharatpur-11, hanged himself on a tree behind his house and Santa Kumari, 43, of Bhandara-8 hanged herself at her own house. Likewise, Madhu Rimal, 64, of Lanku Khoretol of Bharatpur municipality-5 committed suicide by hanging on the kitchen roof. — RSS

PLA fighters escape

Biratnagar: Seven guerrillas of the Maoist People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have escaped from the Morang district-based Yangshila sub-camp with their arms and ammunition. The seven guerrillas are members of the first division of the Chhintangsukhani Memorial Brigade of the PLA. The command of the PLA has deployed cadres of the pro-Maoist Young Communist League to locate and bring back the escapees. — HNS

25 families displaced
