Maoist cadre killed

Janakpur: Unknown group gunned down a Maoist area committee member in Dhanusha district on Saturday evening. According to Rajesh, Mithila bureau member of the Maoists, seven unidentified persons shot Maoist area committee member Binod Mallik at Bisarbhora area while he was returning from Dumariya chowk to his residence at Sonapada VDC. He said Binod died on the spot. Police said they had only heard about the incident and no complaint had been made. — HNS

Boy swept away

PHIDIM: Flood followed by incessant rains in Deuja river swept away seven-year-old Keshav Pokhrel of Ansarang VDC-6 in Panchthar district while he was trying to cross it on Friday. Pokharel’s body was found on the banks of the river and was handed over to his family. — HNS

Bridge collapse kills 1

TAPLEJUNG: One person was killed and 15 injured when an under-repair bridge at Thukimba VDC collapsed on Friday evening. Indra Lal Kedem, 35 of Thukimba-8 was killed in the mishap, head constable at Thumkimba police post, Bhupendra Dhungana, said. The condition of two of the injured is said to be critical. — HNS

Mishap claims one

CHITWAN: Fifteen-year-old Dinesh Shrestha of Bharatpur was killed when a bus heading to Kakarvitta from Kathmandu hit him at Shanti Chowk of Ratnanagar-3 on Saturday morning. Locals have been disrupting traffic along the Mahendra Highway since 12 noon, demanding compensation to the victim’s family. — HNS

1 hurt in police firing

SIRAHA: A businessman, Ram Chandra Shah, of Siraha Sukhipur-2 was injured in police firing on Friday. A police patrol shot at Shah while he was returning home on a motorbike from Bariyapatti at 10 pm on Friday night. Shah has been undergoing treatment in a nursing home. — HNS
