MAHOTTARI: Activists of the JTMM-Jwala fired in the air in Mahottari on Tuesday “in memory” of their comrade, Dev Narayan Yadav. Rajan Mukti, of the JTMM-Jwala, said: “Three shots were fired in Pashupatinagar, five in Krishnanagar and five shots were fired in Aurahi in memory of Dev Narayan Yadav.” — HNS

Interaction on polls

KATHMANDU: An interaction was held between the chief election commissioner Bhojraj Pokharrel and the United Nations Electoral Expert Monitoring Team (EEMT) at the Election Commission on Wednesday. Chief election commissioner Bhojraj Pokharel shed light on the state of the Election Commission and its preparations for constituent assembly elections. Members of the team raised questions related to independent, impartial and reliable elections. The EEMT, headed by Dr Rafael Lopez-Pintor, will present its report to the UN secretary-general. — RSS

Report on trafficking

Kathmandu: The government is making significant efforts to eliminate human trafficking, but more needs to be done, according to the seventh Annual Trafficking in Persons Report released on Tuesday by the US Department of State in Washington DC. According to a statement issued by the US embassy on Wednesday, the assessment graded Nepal as a 2-Tier country, meaning Nepal has not fully complied with the minimum standards in the elimination of trafficking, but is making significant efforts to meet them. — HNS
