UML man abducted

RAUTAHAT: Unidentified men on Monday night whisked away Bharat Bhattarai, the village committee secretary of the CPN-UML in Rautahat from his house at Rangapur VDC-3, Bhattarai’s relatives said on Tuesday. In a statement, chief of the UML’s Rautahat publicity department, Tulsiraj Giri, condemned the abduction and called for his immediate release. Confirming the abduction, Rautahat SP Yogeshwor Romkhani said a search for Bhattarai is on. — HNS

Bid to curb crimes

SIRAHA: A meeting of the representatives of district-based eight parties on Tuesday agreed to curb the growing crimes, traffic rule violations, among other bad incidents, in the district. The decision was made at an eight-party meeting held under the chairmanship of the Maoist district secretary Avinash. “The meeting decided to curb different kinds of crimes,” said Chandra Dev Kamati, district chairman of Bam Morcha Nepal. — HNS

NC meeting today

KATHMANDU: The emergency central working committee meeting of Nepali Congress would be convened on Wednesday and would discuss the stand of the CPN-UML and the Maoists on politics, according to a NC source. The meeting would discuss on the two parties’ stance and the NC’s position in this regard. — HNS

Briton found dead

POKHARA: A British national who was fishing in Fewa lake here was found dead. Biren Johnson, 50, who boarded a boat at 4:00 pm on Monday to go for fishing, was found dead at 5:00 pm on Monday. Ward police office Baidam said Johnson had been living in Pokhara since the past ten days. His dead body was handed over to relatives on Tuesday.— HNS

23 hurt in mishap

DHADING: At least 23 persons were injured when a mini truck bound for Dhadingbensi from Maidi VDC met with an accident at Sirispani area of the district on Tuesday. The mini truck was taking the dead body of one Lok Kumari Kattel for post-mortem. Kattel was found dead in her residence at Maidi VDC on Tuesday morning. Police and locals were on board when the mishap occurred, police said. — HNS

Greenhouse reopens

KAVRE: The Dabur Nepal on Tuesday resumed operation of its Greenhouse Project at Janagal of Kavre district, after 15 days. The management had closed the project for an indefinite period after a dispute arose between the workers’ unions affiliated with the CPN-Maoist and UML, on April 13. A dispute had occurred between the two unions. The project resumed on Tuesday after the management on Monday agreed to meet workers’ demands after reopening the greenhouse, a notice said. — HNS

APF arrests two

RAJBIRAJ: A search team from the Armed Police Forces’ Dantakali battalion on Tuesday arrested two Madhesi Tiger activists. Those arrested include the Madhesi Tiger’s No 1 area in-charge, Ram Janam Yadav alias Nabin and Saptari district member, Parshu Ram Yadav. They were arrested when they tried to hide in a pond at Bathanaha VDC, after seeing the policemen. Meanwhile, a Madhesi Tiger was killed in a clash with the APF at Bhardaha VDC in Saptari on Monday. Tigers and security sources have not confirmed the incident. — HNS

BHADRAPUR: Transportation services that had halted in Jhapa five days ago resumed from Tuesday. Transportation entrepreneurs and workers agreed to resume services after an agreement in an all-party meeting held here on Monday. It was agreed that bus conductor Rajan Guragain of Mechninagar, who was injured in an attack at Gachiya of Morang, would be provided a compensation of Rs 30,000, the government would bear the expenses for his treatment and action would be taken against the attackers. — RSS

Border security office

BIRATNAGAR: A border security office has been established near Morang sugar mills in Biratnagar in the Morang district on Tuesday.
