NC flays land seizure
JANAKPURDHAM: Nepali Congress (NC) has condemned the JTMM-Goit and JTMM (Jwala) for seizing the land and moveable property of its leaders and cadres. In a press release, Dhanusha district president of the Nepali Congress, Ram Krishna Yadav, urged the two outfits to immediately return the seized land and property to the party leaders and cadres. According to the press release, the JTMM has seized land and home of NC joint general secretary Dr Ram Baran Yadav at Brahmapuri, land belonging to NC leader Ananda Prasad Dhungana in Shantipur and Sudip Prasad Tripathi’s land and pond in Raghunathpur. — RSS
Programme on flu
RAJBIRAJ: The open border with India has made the prevention of animal diseases on the Nepali side of the border difficult, speakers at a programme organised here said. At an interaction programme organised by the Saptari District Veterinary Office on bird flu, they also called for the effective enforcement of acts and laws to control animal diseases. Bird flu has not made inroads into Nepal, deputy director of the Eastern Regional Veterinary Directorate, Dr Surya Dev Shah, said. Shah called on all concerned to be vigilant to keep bird flu at bay. — RSS
UML team’s visit
NEW DELHI: A team of CPN-UML leaders including its general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal will arrive in New Delhi on Wednesday, chairperson of the CPN (UML) affiliated All India Students’ Association (AISA) Yubaraj Banskota said. Standing committee members KP Sharma Oli, Jhalanath Khanal, Bam Dev Gautam and Ashok Rai are other members of the team, he said. Meanwhile, CT scan of NC vice-president Sushil Koirala was performed here on Monday. Endoscopies of another NC leader Dr Ram Baran Yadav were performed in Apollo Hospital on Monday. Another NC leader Dr Shekhar Koirala is also undergoing treatment of his head in Apollo Hospital. — HNS
Child injured
BHAKTAPUR: Six-year-old Upendra Kapali was severely injured when a motorcycle hit him near the Bhaktapur-based Korea Maitri Hospital along the Araniko Highway on Monday. The motorcycle was bound for Kathmandu from Bhaktapur. The victim has been undergoing treatment in the hospital. The boy has sustained injuries on his head, limbs and mouth, the hospital said. — RSS
Timber seized
TAPLEJUNG: Cadres of the Young Communist League (YCL) seized 66 cubic feet of timber, brought from the Yanglapu community forest in Nagnkholyang VDC of Taplejung district, on Monday. Prakash Khimding of the YCL said four locals were also held while they were trying to sell Sakhuwa timber. Former chairman of Nagnkholyang VDC Hom Prasad Niraula said the seized timber was handed over to the VDC. — HNS
Curfew in Simikot
Humla: The District Administration Office has issued a curfew order. The curfew will be clamped in Simikot, the district headquarters of Humla, from 8:00 pm on Monday till 5 am, CDO Keshav Prasad Pageni said. — RSS
Contraband seized
PARASI: Police confiscated around two truck-loads of copper and other metals at Guthi Prasauni VDC. The cargo, worth around seven lakh rupees, was being brought from Narayangarh. Police suspect that the cargo was being smuggled into India. According to police inspector Diwakar Ghimire, truck driver Bimal Prasad Sharma, helper Raju Chaudhari, and Krishna Dhakal have been taken into custody. — RSS
One abductee freed
RAJBIRAJ: Cadres of the Madhesi Tigers (MT) released an abductee, Ramesh Kumar Gupta, of Portaha-2 of Saptari on Sunday night. The MT had abducted him on Wednesday. Gupta was freed in the presence of rights activist Junga Bahadur Singh, MT area-1 in-charge Nabin said. — HNS
