NA officers punished

KATHMANDU: The Military Court has barred promotion of commanders of the Bhairavidal and Bhavanibaks battalions for two years and also prevented them from commanding battalions for their involvement in irregularities in a tender call in the fiscal year 2005-2006, the Directorate of Public Relations of the Army said on Tuesday. The court has also barred the promotion of other junior officers serving in those battalions. — HNS

House robbed

MAHOTTARI: A gang of around 35 armed dacoits looted property worth around five lakh rupees from a house at Ekarahiya VDC in the Mahottari on Monday night. They broke into the house of Basu Dev Yadav and made away with Rs four lakh, two tolas of gold and 20 tolas of silver, said a local, Binay Yadav. Bashu Dev’s brother Bidhya Nanda was critically injured when the dacoits opened fire at him while he was trying to retaliate. He is undergoing treatment at the Janakpur Zonal Hospital. — HNS

Bandh hits Gaighat

GAIGHAT: Normal life here was affected on Tuesday due to a bandh called by the Danuwar Struggle Committee. Transport services, educational institutions and bazaars were closed. The bandh was called to protest the release of alleged criminals from the local jail. Concession for hurt

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to give a 33 per cent concession to the people injured in the Jana Andolan while travelling by public transport. The Ministry of Labour and Transport Management, in a notice on Tuesday, asked the owners of public vehicles to make effective arrangements for the implementation of the decision. — RSS
