Maoist abducted
RAUTAHAT: Activists of the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) led by Jwala Singh, on Monday afternoon abducted Maoists’ area secretary Manoj Patel. Armed JTMM activists led by district chairman Ajay Yadav, who came in a vehicle with an Indian registration plate, abducted Patel from his residence at Dewahi VDC-6, former Maoists’ People’s Government chief Bindeshwor Yadav said. JTMM district chairman Yadav stated over telephone that Patel was abducted for helping a non-Nepali acquire Nepali citizenship certificate. — HNS
Tribute to martyrs
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) on Monday paid tribute to martyrs who had laid down their lives while fighting for the restoration of democracy both in 1990 and in 2006. Referring to the fight waged by all the political parties after October 4, 2002, the statement noted the way the CPN-Maoist has joined the interim government and the parliament. The party has issued a call to celebrate the day as a historic one. — HNS
JTMM (Goit) stance
Rajbiraj: Coordinator of the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) Jaya Krishna Goit on Monday threatened to stage protests if the CA polls were held in the Tarai region. A statement issued by Goit has called the people of the region to boycott the CA polls. The statement has also demanded formation of an interim government through a round-table conference of all political parties, organisations, intellectual community and the civil society from the Tarai region and that the CA polls should be held by such a government. — HNS
More typhoid cases
GAIGHAT: The number of people suffering from typhoid is on the rise in Beltar VDC of Udaypur for the past few days. Up to 15 persons in Wards No 1 and 5 of the VDC are suffering from typhoid, mainly due to use of contaminated water, locals said. Up to five typhoid patients visit the clinics in the VDC daily, a local Kedar Katuwal said. Meanwhile, the District Public Health Office (Udaypur) said it did not have information regarding the health situation in the VDC. — HNS
Woman killed in fire
POKHARA: Seventy-year-old Rupa Kumari Gurung of Uttamchowk in Pokhara-10 died when her house was gutted in a fire on Sunday. Gurung, who was suffering from paralysis, could not escape after a fire broke out from a cigarette stub, police said. — HNS
