EC acting secretary

KATHMANDU: Sushil Jung Rana took charge of the office at the Election Commission as acting secretary on Wednesday. The post of secretary at the commission was lying vacant after former secretary Dolakh Bahadur Gurung was appointed as the election commissioner. Rana was earlier heading the cantonment management (of the Maoists) under the Home Ministry. — HNS

Indian aid for schools

KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India on Sunday signed three separate MoUs with Jhapa DDC and Shree Adarsha Vidya Mandir higher secondary school of Ghailadubba VDC, Jhapa DDC and Shree Pashupati secondary school of Rajgadh VDC and Ilam DDC and Shree Karfok Vidya Mandir of Panchkanya VDC for the construction of the schools’ infrastructure. A press release issued here on Wednesday said the embassy would provide the Adarsha Vidya Mandir and Pashupati Secondary School of Jhapa with Rs 2,14,48,981 and Rs 1,44,00,397 respectively for the construction of the school buildings and Rs 2,25,61,275 for Karfok Vidya mandir of Ilam for the construction of a school building, toilet block and boundary wall. — HNS

Snowfall hits life

MUGU: Normal life here has been affected following incessant snowfall since Tuesday night. While work at government offices has been hard hit, students are enjoying extra holidays. The citizenship certificate distribution process has also been affected by the snowfall. — RSS
