14 kids missing

MAHENDRANAGAR: Fourteen children have been missing from the Mahashivaratri mela at Mahendranagar since Friday. “Five of the came into contact on Saturday,” District Police Office (Kanchanpur) said. Fourteen chidren — Alisa Chand, Dinesh Bhatt, Susmita Air, Santosh Bhatt, Nabin Joshi, Dikshya Kumari Bhatt, Nabin Chand, Kishna Bhatt, Paras Kunwar, Bindu Chand, Bibek Thagunna, Bhagrathi Pant, Alok Chand, and Jeevan Chand are still missing, police said, adding, five chidren including Purusottam Thakurathi, Bishnu Dutta Bhatt, Deepmala Chand, Roshan Bhat, and Padam Khatri have come into contact. — HNS

DPR to be delayed

DHANKUTA: Preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Sunkoshi-Saptakoshi Exploration Project will take another two years. The 30-month deadline, set by an agreement between the government of India and Nepal, for preparing the DPR expired on February 2 but the report is yet to be ready. The DPR preparation team is carrying out a study to prepare the report. — HNS

JTMM nabs Maoist

RAJBIRAJ: Activists of the Jwala Singh-led Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) on Saturday held a Maoist company commander from Chhinnamasta in Rajbiraj. “ JTMM activists captured Ram Sharan Bhujel alias Rajib, Maoist company commander of Bishal Kumar Memorial Brigade ‘A’ while he was planning to attack JTMM east command incharge Ranabir Singh with a grenade,” said JTMM district coordinator Kailash. He was captured with a grenade, Kailash said. The Maoist sources have not said anything on this issue. — HNS

Tree crushes one

HETAUDA: Kabindra Niraula, 18, of Basamadi village development committee was killed and two persons were critically injured after the tree that they were sitting under fell upon them. They were resting under the tree after collecting firewood on Saturday, said the Makwanpur district police office. Sanjay Kumar Balami and Buddha Lama suffered injuries, police said. They have been sent to Bharatpur for treatment, according to sources at the Hetauda hospital. — HNS

Youth shot dead

SARLAHI: An unidentified group shot dead one youth staying in a rented room at Barahathawa VDC-7 in Sarlahi last night. Ganilal Rai, 17, a permanent resident of Gadhaiya VDC-7 was shot dead by unidentified persons, SP of the District Police Office Sarlahi, Ghananda Bhatta, said. Ganilal Rai was shot while he was sleeping in his rented apartment. A search for the culprits is underway. — HNS

Elderly found dead

BARA: The body of an elderly person was found on the premises of Kalaiya Hospital on Saturday. Body of a person of about 70 years of age has been found and search for his family is on, police said. The body has not been identified yet. — HNS

‘Rape bid’ by AHW

KAPILVASTU: Locals on Saturday filed a complaint with the police alleging Birendra Mishra, an assistant health worker at Rangapur health post in Kapilvastu, tried to molest a patient. “Mishra tried to molest my wife while he was examinig her,” said the victim’s husband Bed Prakash (name changed). Locals, seeking punishment to Mishra gheraoed the health post, said ASI Kapil Dev Yadav. Mishra has been absconding. Mukunda Gautam, officer at the District Public Health Office said he was unaware of the incident. — HNS
