SINDHUPALCHOWK: NC leader Arjun Narasingh KC said NC would go to constituent assembly polls as per the people’s desire for a republican set up. Opening the second district conference of the Nepal Women’s Association at Barhabise on Tuesday, KC said: “I’m hopeful that the party will support the establishment of a republic, since NC changed its stance on monarchy.” — HNS
RPP seeks changes
KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) registered its six-point amendment in the Interim Constitution, 2007 at the secretariat of the legislature-parliament on Tuesday. It has proposed amendments in articles 18, 45, 103, 138, 139, and 149. The proposed amendments include introducing a federal system for progressive, democratic and inclusive restructuring of the state. The RPP has also demanded formation of local government authority as per the consensus of parties in the parliament. — HNS

TULSIPUR: The regional gathering of the CPN-UML in constituency no 4 concluded here on Tuesday. Protesting the destructive acts in the Terai region, the gathering of the party has urged the government to come up with a solution. — RSS
Panel begins work
KATHMANDU: The High-level Public Corporations Reforms Recommendation Committee has started its work. The government had formed the committee for taking forward the task related to the ‘liquidation’ of all the closed corporations as they were deemed non-operational and to re-restructure corporations running losses. The seven-member committee, under the convenorship of former Secretary Bholanath Chalise, would recommend to the government whether to re-operate the public corporations. — RSS
School to reopen
BIRATNAGAR: The Morang Model Boarding School, which was closed for three days following the agitation of teachers and staffers, will reopen on Wednesday. An agreement to this effect was reached on Tuesday in a stakeholders’ meeting. — HNS
NC-D leader quits
BIRGUNJ: Nepali Congress-Democratic Parsa unit president Ajaya Dwevedi on Tuesday resigned from his post expressing solidarity towards the demands put up by the Madhesis. Stating that the Prime Minister’s recent statement failed to address the social justice and cultural identity of Madhesi people, he said it was his moral responsibility to resign being his party in the government. He also urged the NC-D to quit the government and take part in the movement of the Madhesi community. — RSS
Media team in Damak
DAMAK: Media Mission Team (MMT) led by president of Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) Bishnu Nisthuri took information on the situation of the Press and journalists in Damak on Tuesday. Speaking at a programme organised at Journalist Forum Damak on Tuesday, Nisthuri urged journalists to show restraint while working in difficult situations like the present. Earlier, the team inspected the first division of Maoist army camp at Chulachuli in Ilam. Other members of the team are FNJ central members Ramesh Bist and Purna Basnet. In Nepalgunj journalists affiliated with the FNJ Banke staged a protest rally on Tuesday and demanded that agitators apologise for the attack on journalists. — HNS
