Students drown
Dailekh: Three students died in two different incidents of drowning in the district on Saturday. Pabitra Thapa of Narayan Municipality, a student at Tribhuwan Namuna Higher Secondary School and her sister Pushpa Thapa, a student at Saraswati Secondary School, drowned in the Lohore river. Tek Bahadur Mukhiya, a Class V student at Panchakoshi Secondary School of Kharigaira VDC drowned in Chhamghat river. — HNS
Poacher nabbed
NEPALGUNJ: A poacher was held, along with two home-made pistols, in Mahadevpuri of Banke district on Sunday. Lal Bahadur Oli, a resident of Premnagar Sikta in Khaskusma was arrested by a patrol team of Shumshergunj Range Post, said assistant forest officer Amar Bahadur Bhulan. "Two home-made pistols, one kg of Chital meat, equipment to trap wild animals and other camping materials were seized from Oli," said Bhulan, adding that the poacher had been hunting in the jungle for the past five days. Bhulan said Oli was one of the members of a group that was involved in the poaching of wild animals. Bhulan added that Oli was a daily-wage-worker at the Sikta Irrigation Project. Oli has been sent to the District Forest Office for further investigation, added Bhulan. — HNS
Lightning claims lives
DAMAK: Dipak Rajbanshi (16) of Lakhanpur, Jhapa, and Panchaya Maya Rai (75) of Itahara, Morang were killed when lightning struck them on Sunday. Rai died on the spot while Rajbanshi was being taken to hospital, the Damak Area Police Office said. — HNS
Drinking water row
Chautara: Kumar Pradhan (27), a resident of Dhumthang VDC of Sindhupalchok, was killed on Friday night in a scuffle among the villagers on the issue of drinking water. The police have arrested Chitra Bahadur Pradhan and Gyan Bahadur Pradhan in connection with Pradhan's murder while another accused has been at large. Pradhan was killed for disconnecting the water pipe, and his murder was kept a secret until the police was informed about the incident.— RSS
