New WWF-Nepal chief

KATHMANDU: The WWF Headquarters recently nominated Anil Manandhar as the new country representative of WWF-Nepal. The top-most post was vacant after the then country representative Dr Chandra Gurung passed away in helicopter crash at Taplejung on September 23. “I will be doing my best to give continuation to what our organisation has been doing in the field of the nature conservation,” newly nominated WWF-Nepal chief Manandhar said. — HNS

Rights body panel

KATHMANDU: The first general convention of the Human Rights Home has constituted a 11-member new committee with Subudhraj Pyakurel as the president. Bhawani Prasad Kharel, the newly elected deputy general secretary said, Kedar Khadka, Dr Gopal Krishna Siwakoti and Ganga Kasaju have been elected as vice-president, general secretary and treasurer, respectively. Other newly elected members are Purna Basnet, Chakraman Biswakarma, Mandira Sharma, Tikaran Bhattarai, Bishnu Khatri and Raju Thapa. — HNS

Compensation paid

ILAM: The government on Friday provided Rs 1.5 lakh compensation to the family of Tilak Magar of Jeetpur-1, who was killed by Maoists. The Ilam district administration office handed over the money to Magar’s father, San Bahadur Magar. Magar was shot dead by Maoists on April 4. — HNS

Workers clash

BARA: One person was injured in a scuffle that erupted between the Nepal Boards Private Limited workers affiliated to Maoist-aligned Workers’ Union-Revolutionary and CPN-UML-aligned GEFONT at Simara in Bara on Friday. One worker, Dhan Bahadur Khadka, was injured in the scuffle and was taken to Narayani Sub Regional Hospital Birgunj for treatment, Area Police Office Simara said. — HNS

SIRAHA: Activists of the Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) on Saturday morning set ablaze a jeep belonging to the Lahan branch office of the Janakpur Cigarette Factory. According to the Lahan area police office, JTMM activists torched the jeep on the factory office premises at 2 am. The JTMM faction led by Jwala Singh owned responsibility for the

Dhadingbesi: The first convention of the Bagmati Zonal Committee of Nepal Magar Students’ Association concluded on Saturday. The meet elected a committee led by Amar Thapa.
