NC cadre abducted

KATHMANDU: Maoists on Monday afternoon abducted Nepali Congress active member Bramha Dev Thakur, of Madhopur VDC-2, Rautahat district from his village. According to the Nepali Congress, the Maoists had abducted him earlier and released after 20 days. The statement said condemned the inhumane, undemocratic and anti-freedom activities carried out by the Maoists at a time when peace process is going on, and demanded Thakur’s release. — RSS

NHRC’s concern

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged all concerned to not use children in demonstrations, assembly and other political activities. The NHRC has also urged all to promote children and schools as zone of peace. In a statement released on Monday, the NHRC has said a monitoring carried of the demonstration and programme organised during the national conference of the ANNISU (R) found that regular classes in majority of the schools in Kathmandu Valley were obstructed and children had been widely used. — HNS

Schools shut

NUWAKOT: Most of the community schools here shut down on Monday to express solidarity with the temporary teachers’strike. The agitating teachers are demanding that all of them be made permanent. Schools in Deurali and those under the Tupche resource centre have shut down. — HNS

Katuwal’s call

Kathmandu: Apprising the Parliamentary Development Committee, Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Rukmangat Katuwal on Monday asked the government and parties to help clear the obstacles created by the Maoists against the construction of Surkhet-Jumla section of Karnali Highway. Katuwal also requested the government to take initiative to develop a consensus between the locals and the Maoists so as to smoothen the road construction process. The Committee directed to complete the construction of road within the given four months’ time from now. MPs raised issue of Army not being transparent in the project. — HNS

Abductee released

DHADING: Purushottam Neupane, 35, of Pida VDC, who was abducted by Maoists on September 12 while he was out in search of his abducted daughters, has been freed. He came into contact with family members on Saturday. While abducting him, Maoists had assured him they would help find his daughters. — RSS
