KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Poudel, speaking at the concluding session of the training held for newly-appointed district court judges here on Friday, instructed the judges not to compromise on judicial norms and values, the spirit of independent judiciary and the principles of law. He said the prestige of the entire judiciary would be enhanced if all efforts of the judges were directed towards promoting the norms and values of the independent judiciary. — RSS

NHRC inspection

PALPA: A team of representatives of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) western regional office, on Friday inspected the Devinagar-based temporary base camp of the Maoist militias here. The team headed by the regional deputy director Achyut Acharya collected information about the camp, NHRC sources said. The team also met Maoist commissar Surendra, company assistant commander Surya and some militias and sought information about their condition and daily activities. — HNS

Chakka jam staged

DANG: Locals staged a chakka jam on the Ghorahi-Tulsipur road section to demand compensation after one Gokarna Budhathoki of Hapur VDC was seriously injured in a road mishap on Friday. All vehicular traffic went off the road after the chakka jam. According to the Dang District Police Office, Budhathoki was taken to Nepalgunj for treatment. The number of the vehicle that hit him is yet to be known, police said. — HNS

Minister in Delhi

NEW DELHI: State Minister for Forests and Land Conservation, Gopal Rai, who is on a visit to India arrived here on Thursday. “He will officiate as chief guest in party activists’ meetings and organisation extension programmes which are scheduled in Brindaban, Chandigarh and Delhi,” said Bal Krishna Pande, spokesperson for the Nepali Jana Samparka Samiti. He will also open the International Cultural Festival. — HNS
