Two die in mishap

NAWALPARASI: Two persons were killed and two others critically injured when a car collided with a bus in Nawalparasi's Mukundapur on Thursday night. Subas Ratna Gubhaju (46) of Kathmandu and Saroj Chandra Dhakal (42) of Kaski's Lahachowk were killed in the accident, police said. Car driver Bishnu Bhandari and Keshav Pandey of Rupandehi's Motipur, who sustained serious injuries, are undergoing treatment in Bharatpur Medical College, police said. — HNS

Girls abused sexually

LAHAN: Nepali girls working in brick factories in India have been facing sexual harassment and exploitation. According to a worker in such a factory, Nepali girls working in the adjoining Indian towns were sexually abused by Indian labourers and proprietors. More than 500 Nepali women and men work in some dozen brick factories in the area. — RSS

RUKUM: A peon has been taking charge as the chief of Rukum jail as there are no senior officials. The prison has the quota for seven staffers. Peon Deep Bahadur Khatri says the administrative works at the prison have been hampered as there are no officer-level staffers at the prison. Khatri looks after all the office works. According to Khatri, an assistant level employee in Rolpa who was appointed as the acting jailor, had not come to take up his assignment. There are 29 inmates in the district prison though it has an accommodation capacity for only 15 inmates. — RSS

KHOTANG: Property worth Rs 500,000 was gutted when a fire broke out in the house of Chandra Kali Adhikari at Yamkha-6 of Khotang on Thursday. All the furniture of the house along with four tolas of gold and silver were gutted in the fire, the police said. — RSS

ILAM: Drinking water supply in Ilam Municipality has been disrupted after flood swept away the intake tank of Geetang Water Supply Project located 31 km away from the municipality. Over 35,000 people have been affected due to the disruption. The municipality has sent a technical team to the site to solve the problem and resume water supply at the earliest, said Yubaraj Dahal, executive officer of the municipality. —RSS


KATHMANDU: Minister for Labour and Transport Management Mohamad Aftab Aalam said the rights of the labourers would be guaranteed in the new constitution. Speaking at a training programme on Collective Bargaining and Skill Promotion in the capital on Friday, he said the government would focus to protect the rights and security of labourers. Aalam appealed to all trade unions to avoid strikes to maintain friendly industrial relationship. At the programme, CA member and general secretary of Nepal Trade Union Congress Achyut Pandey demanded a separate commission to ensure social security to the labourers. — RSS


MYAGDI: Kathmandu-based Hydro Solution Company has finished the survey for the construction of a hydel project in Kaligandaki gorge along the border of Myagdi and Mustang districts. Engineer of the company Kumar Pandey said around 200 MW power could be generated from the project. It will take around Rs 23 billion to complete the project. According to the company, a dam will be constructed on the border of Lete and Kunjo VDCs in Mustang district. The powerhouse will be constructed in Narchang of Myagdi district, six km away from Lete and Kunjo. The construction of the project is scheduled to begin this year and will be completed within 2070 BS. — RSS
