KATHMANDU: The High-Level Investigation Commission headed by former Supreme Court Justice Krishna Jung Rayamajhi on Friday interrogated senior Nepal Police personnel including DIG Rabindra Pratap Rana, SSP Ganga Pandey, SSP Bir Sharan Thapa, DSP Bishow Ranjan Pradhan, SP Narendra Khaling, Inspector Narayan Chimouriya, and Police Constable Ranjan Kumar Dangol. — HNS
Hearing rescheduled
KATHMANDU: Case against the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Rukmangat Katuwal, scheduled for Friday at the Supreme Court could not be heard due to lack of time. A single-bench of Justice Paramananda Jha adjourned the hearing to Monday. Advocate Dilhari Sharma had filed a petition challenging Katuwal’s elevation to the post acting chief of the Nepal Army. The petitioner has claimed that Katuwal played a significant role in suppressing the recent Jana Andolan II and that he had produced a false birth certificate for acquiring a job. — HNS
JTMM splits
Janakpurdham: The Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) recently split into two factions. A conference held at an undisclosed place on August 14 formed a new 23-member of working committee of the JTMM under the chairmanship of Jwala Singh (Nagendra Paswan). Meanwhile, Jaya Krishna Goit, told this daily over telephone that Singh, who was said to be the coordinator of new working committee of the party, was a member of his party but was not in touch with the party for a month. — HNS
Chakkajam continues
DANG: A chakkajam organised by the locals here continued for the second day on Friday. The chakkajam was organised to demand compensation for the kin of one Bhagamati Chaudhari, 50, who was knocked down to death bu a bus at the Lamahi-Bhaluwang road section of the Mahendra highway on Thursday. Locals have demanded Rs 500,000 and immediate action against the culprit. — HNS
Students torch jeep
BIRATNAGAR: Irate students of the Mahendra Morang Multiple Campus, Biratnagar, on Friday set ablaze a jeep belonging to a local industrialist, Mahendra Golchha, at Roadshesh Chowk, after the jeep hit a student. Dipendra Sharma, 18, was hurt when the jeep bound for Jogbani from Biratnagar hit him, police said. — HNS
ANIJ suggestion
KATHMANDU: Representatives of the Association of Nepalese Indigenous/Nationalities Journalists (ANIJ) on Friday handed over a 16-point recommendation to the High-level Media Recommendation Commission. The recommendation mainly urged the commission to make an inclusive media council and provide incentives to indigenous journalists. It also has demanded making all government media inclusive. — HNS
Journos’ ouster flayed
KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese Journalists on Friday condemned the sacking of Ghodaghodi FM staffers. The management of the Attariya-based FM station in Kailali district had sacked all its employees saying the transformer of the station had to be ‘repaired’. The FNJ has urged the FM station to reappoint the sacked media persons. — HNS
Traffic resumes
JANAKPURDHAM: The Janakpur Zonal Bus Entrepreneurs’ Association and the Independent Workers’ Union (IWU) Janakpur called off transport strike on Friday. Member of the IWU, Ram Naresh Singh, said the strike was called off after Dhanusha CDO Durga Nidhi Sharma promised to initiate action against the culprit.— HNS
