One accused of rape, murder held in Rautahat: Police
RAUTAHAT: Police in Rautahat district have arrested a man accused of strangling a 14-year-old girl after raping her in Rautahat district on October 2.
The arrested has been identified as 45-year-old Chunnu Saha of Vrindaban Municipality-4 in the district.
Saha had allegedly enticed the girl who was herding cattle, to a sugarcane field where he raped her and strangled her to death, according to police.
Saha had been absconding after the incident.
According to Rautahat District Police Office (DPO), police came to know about the incident after a 10-year-old boy came across the body of the girl lying in semi-dressed state at the sugarcane field belonging to local Hos Narayan Yadav, at around 4:30 pm, on the day the incident occurred.
A joint team of security personnel deployed from the DPO and Province 2 Police Office arrested Saha on October 8. The security personnel who had been carrying out the investigation arrested Saha who was hiding in Garuda Municipality-8.
Following the arrest, Saha's health was examined the results of which stated that he had born some injuries about six days ago and his body bore scratches from sugarcane leaves, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Siddhi Bikram Shah at the DPO.
The arrestee confessed to police that he raped the teenager and strangled her to death after she became unconscious, the SP said.
Meanwhile, police have carried out further investigation into the case after taking the arrestee into judicial custody for 15 days with an order from Rautahat District Court.
The arrestee will face action under the Criminal Offences Act, police informed.
