One arrested for thrashing journalist

Dang, March 14:

The police today arrested a person involved in thrashing Ajayadeep Sharma, vice chairman of the Federation of Nepali Journalists’ Dang chapter and editor of Naulo Janaubhar weekly.

The police held Subas Singh, a resident of Ghorahi-11, who had thrashed journalist Sharma for defying the bandh called by the agitating Tharus last night.

However, another assailant Pradip Thapa ‘Pappu’ is still at large, the police said. Sharma was attacked when he was heading to Narayanpur on a motorbike to attend to his sick child.

A team led by FNJ Dang chairman Pratap Regmi and a police team from Dang District Police Office had immediately reached the location and interrogated the locals in connection to the incident.

Sharma is also a central member of Revolutionary Journalists’ Association. Sharma said he was attacked even after he showed his identity card to the assailants.
