Itahari, November 11:

Locals seized hold of central member of the Kirat Workers’ Party Khadga Dewan and handed him to the police today for attempting to extort Rs 5 lakh from a woman.

Dewan tried to squeeze money from the woman after giving her threats to her life. Locals said Dewan picked up Rs 60,000 from one Bimala Subba, a resident of Tamangtole of Hasposa-2 in August. He had demanded Rs 5 lakh from her. Dewan was caught when he reached Tamangtole to collect the amount from Bimala today, said the in-charge of the Itahari area police office Bishwomani Pokhrel.
