Siraha, March 28
Police arrested one person for allegedly throwing mobil at Golbazaar Municipality Mayor Shyam Kumar Shrestha in Siraha today.
While Mayor Shrestha was about to get on the vehicle following his exit from the office of the municipality's chief administrative officer, an unidentified person threw mobil at the mayor as another individual was giving documents to him.
The mayor's driver Ram Kewal Mandal said an unidentified person threw mobil at the mayor while another person showed documents to him as the mayor was set to get into the vehicle to go to Siraha headquarters. Mandal said he had taken a person under control while the other fled the scene.
The miscreants have left pamphlets of People's Struggle Mobilisation Committee of Nepal Communist Party (Bahumat).
The arrested has been identified as Sadhu Saran Mahara of Siraha, police said. The arrested has been taken to District Police Office Siraha. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, said SP Tekunanda Iwa Limbu.
Municipality employees and the mayor's party's activists mercilessly thrashed Mahara. The pamphlets accuse Mayor Shrestha of shielding loan sharks and pocketing millions in tax.
