DAMAULI:  Tanahun Police have arrested a woman for defrauding people in the name  of witchcraft on Tuesday.

Krishna Maya Kasai, 51, of Ghasikunwa,  Tanahun, was held on the charge of defrauding Krishna Bahadur Gurung,  37, of Aanbukhaireni.

DSP Rakesh Singh of Tanahun District Police Office  said Kasai had swindled more than Rs 1.6 lakh, including cash and  ornaments, from Gurung by saying that he had to appease the gods and  goddesses to relieve misfortune.

“As Kasai had barred Gurung from coming  out of her house, he didn’t come in contact with his family members for  long.

He was also not allowed to communicate with anybody else over  telephone during the period,” said the victim’s kin.

Security personnel  have seized the cash and ornaments from her house, as per DSP Singh.
