PHIDIM: A person died on the spot and 10 others sustained injuries after a jeep collided with a tractor in Falgunanda Rural Municipality-3 along the Mechi Highway in Panchthar district on Thursday night.

The deceased has been identified as Lalmaya Chemjong (55) and injured as Buddha Chemjong, Tekendra Nembang, Janthang Nembang, Yusan Nembang, Puphahang Chemjong, Jaymila Limbu, all the residents of Falgunanda Rural Municipality-2 including Sabin Rai, Anil Rai and jeep driver Saroj Limbu, the residents of Maipokhari in Ilam district.

The identity of the injured tractor driver is yet to be established, according to police.

According to police, the incident occurred when both, the Jeep (Me 1 Ja 2993) en route from Birtamod of Jhapa to Phidim collided head-on with the tractor (Me 1 Ta 3553) and fell some 10 metres below the road killing a passenger and injuring 10 others, in Pangre Bhir, at around 10:00 pm yesterday.

The injured have been undergoing treatment in B & C Medical College, Man Mohan Memorial Community Hospital and Neuro Cardio & Multispeciality Hospital, informed District Police Office, Panchthar.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the incident is underway, said police.
