One killed, 88 hurt in mishap

Kathmandu, December 13:

One woman was killed and 88 injured when two buses returning from a picnic fell some 100 metres down the road in Jagadole, Gokarna VDC of Kathmandu, today.

According to ASI Prakash Basnet of Metropolitan Police Circle Bouddha, both the buses fell some 100 metres off the road when one of the buses rammed into the other. The driver of the bus that hit the other has been absconding.

The injured include 46 women and more than 10 children.

A scooter was also damaged in the mishap, though the rider is safe.

The spot is some three kilometres from Jorpati.

The employees of Shree Mahadev Cooperatives Limited of Kirtipur were returning from a picnic in Jagadole when the accident occurred at around 5:30 pm.

DSP Om Bahadur Rana said the deceased woman was yet to be identified. She died while undergoing treatment at Nepal Medical College in Attarkhel.

Three of the four seriously injured — Sabitri Devi, 55, of Sitamadi in India, Mira Maharjan, 28, of Kirtipur and Pashupati Karki of Udaypur — are receiving treatment at Nepal Medical College while an unidentified injured woman is receiving treatment at Om Hospital in Chabahil.
