One killed, another injured in Bara bike-tipper collision
BARA: A woman died and a man sustained critical injuries after the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a tipper truck in Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City-24 along Manmat-Matiarwa road section today.
The deceased has been identified as Khushbu Nesa (35) of Sisawa in Maheshpur area of Kalaiya-26 and the injured as her husband Zakir Hussain.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ranjit Singh Rathore, a tipper truck (Na 8 Kha 3129) heading towards Piluwa from Kalaiya collided head-on with the motorcycle (Ba 16 Pa 9757) killing its pillion rider Nesa and injuring Hussain, at Shreepur in Manaharwa area this afternoon.
Immediately, after the incident occurred, locals blocked the road for two hours until police agreed not to allow the heavy vehicles to ply the under-construction road for few days.
Meanwhile, critically injured Hussain has been receiving treatment at NMC Hospital in Birgunj, Parsa district.
The DSP informed that police have impounded the truck and detained its driver Surendra Patel (27) of Kalaiya-16 while the investigation into the incident is underway.
It has been learnt that the couple was heading home on the motorcycle to celebrate Eid festival after selling vegetables in Nawalparasi district.
Currently, the under-construction Manmat-Matiarwa road is in its final phase near completion.
Local representative Hari Lal Chaudhary stressed the need for developing awareness programmes related to vehicles and road safety citing that the rural roads witnessed growing traffic of late.
