One shot dead in Birgunj, 3 hurt
Birgunj, June 4:
One person was killed and three others injured when an unidentified armed duo opened fire at the showroom of Sonalika Tractors at Adarshanagar here today.
A showroom worker Ajay Chaurasiya, a resident of Amarpatti VDC in Parsa district, was killed in the firing, said superintendent of police Jay Bahadur Chanda. The critically injured Chaurasiya died on the way to a hospital.
Showroom owner Satya Narayan Tulsyan, 60, and workers Shesh Lukman and Ram Ayodhya Thakur were injured in the incident, police said.
Two unidentified persons on a motorcycle (Na 1 Pa 4068) screeched to a halt in front of the showroom and opened fire, said eyewitnesses. The duo then fled towards Maisthan, they added.
The injured have been referred to Kathmandu by the Birgunj-based Narayani sub-regional hospital.
The area was tense after the incident and locals are a terrified lot. Security has been stepped up with a large number of security personnel deployed in the area, SP Chanda said.
The number of criminal activities and incidents of robbery has gone up in Birgunj and adjoining areas in the past few days.
As a mark of protest against the incident, the Birgunj Chambers of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) has called a five-hour Birgunj bazaar bandh starting 6 am tomorrow.
A statement issued by the BCCI said a protest rally will also be held tomorrow.
