One swept, another missing in flood

One person was swept to death by a local stream that had swollen due to heavy downpour in Banepa Municipality, Kavre, while another person has gone missing today evening.

The deceased has been identified as Mohan Bahadur Thapa, 58, of Nayabasti, Banepa-4. Thapa was a retired Nepal Army soldier.

He was swept away by the flooded Punyamata khola while he was crossing the stream. Inspector Anil Kumar Ghimire said Thapa’s body was recovered from the banks of a stream at Ugratara Janagal VDC today morning.

An eyewitness said Thapa was swept away by the swollen stream after he tried to cross it despite repeated requests not to do so.

Similarly, Jit Bahadur,52, went missing after he was swept away by the local Chandeswori khola.

Police said a search operation was on to find the missing man.

Minor drowns

KAVRE: Asish Kafle,11, of Kavre’s Panchkhal Municipality drowned in a local pond while he was swimming. Sixth grader at local Saraswoti Sikshya Griha, Kafle was trapped in quicksand and drowned, Panchkhal police said.
