KATHMANDU, MAY 12

A woman climber from Ukraine has scaled the world's highest peak this season sending a message of peace to the world, expedition organisers said.

Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, Managing Director at 14 Peaks Expedition, said that Antonina Samoilova, 33, from Cherkassy reached the summit point carrying the Ukrainian flag to the top of the world to boost morale of her fellow citizens who are fighting the Russian invasion.

"Antonina, the only Ukrainian on Everest this season, along with other climbers stood atop the mountain at around 6:40am," Sherpa told THT from the base camp.

Among other climbers, Valle Arrue Alfa Karina has also become the first Salvadoran climber to scale Mt Everest this season, Sherpa added.
