Optical fibre cables being laid in Chitwan National Park

CHITWAN: The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has started laying optical fibre cables according as the plans to further strengthen the security situation of the park.

The park is adopting modern technology and laying 52-kilometre (km) long optical fibre cable within the conservation area accordingly, keeping in mind the security sensitivity.

CNP Chief Conservation Officer Ramchandra Kandel shared the 20 km long optical fibre cable would be laid from the park’s main office Kasara to Sauraha and 20 km from Kasara-Jhimle-Meghauli. Likewise, the cable would be laid in 6 km distance from Amaltari of Nawalparasi towards east and 6 km towards west, Kandel added.

Financial and technical assistance for laying optical fibre cable and installing CC camera has been provided by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Kandel informed.

The task has been undertaken to gradually modernise the security system of CNP which has lately, witnessed zero poaching for the past 960 days, according to the national park sources.

Earlier, the CNP had installed 10 CC cameras through simple wire in different sites along the Rapti River to check the wildlife poaching.
