Anxiety prevails at the growing obscurity of the Khaam language spoken in Athar Magarat region. The Athar Magarat Magar
Language Cultural Development Foundation held an interactive programme, "Athar Magarat
Magar Language: Current Situation" in Ghorahi to take stock of the situation.
Chairperson of the foundation and member of the National Foundation for Uplift of Ethnic Groups, Bam Kumari Budha Magar, blamed the invasion of western culture and the inferiority and discomfiture felt by Magar people for the escalating problem. Jhakendra Gharti Magar, general secretary of the foundation, presented a paper on countering the dying out of Khaam language. He lamented that they had to bear the brunt of the conflict between the government and the Maoists.
