Temporary housing construction for earthquake survivors is currently in progress in Rukum West, where more than 10,000 such dwellings have already been erected in the district.

An earthquake had jolted Jajarkot and Rukum West districts with its epicenter at Ramidanda of Jajarkot on November 3, 2023, destroying thousands of houses.

Two months since the disaster, most of the quake survivors are still living under tarpaulin sheets. Although 10,423 temporary houses are built across in the district in two months, number of the survivors to have such facilities is big, said acting Chief District Officer, Prabesh Baduwal.

He shared that 7,087 houses are under construction in the district. So far, 4,041 temporary huts- highest- are built in Sanibheri Rural Municipality while there are only 24 huts in Musikot Municipality.

Baduwal mentioned that 3,014 temporary huts were built in Aathbiskot Municipality, while 2,289 in Chaurjahari Municipality, 938 in Tribeni Rural Municipality and 117 in Bafikot Rural Municipality.

Total Rs 590.2 million has been sent to local disaster relief fund from District Disaster Management Fund for 23,608 beneficiaries so far.

Similarly, police have collected details of 27,682 beneficiaries across the district. The District Administration Office expects that the number of beneficiaries might increase as task of collecting their details was still going on.
