KATHMANDU, AUGUST 2
Nepal Police have seized more than 1.8 tonnes of marijuana in separate operations in Morang and Dhankuta, arresting three people in connection with the cases.
In Morang, police seized 1,033.484 kg of marijuana from a mini-truck during a security check at Sombare in Ratuwamai Municipality-10 on Saturday. According to the police, officers from the Area Police Office, Sijuwa, intercepted the vehicle (Ko 1 Kha 4373) travelling from Urlabari towards Ambari and recovered the contraband packed in 31 bundles.
The driver, Umesh Tamang, 28, of Pakhribas Municipality-9, Dhankuta, was arrested. An investigation is underway.
In a separate operation in Dhankuta, police recovered 804 kg of marijuana from a house built under the Janata Awas Programme in Choubise Rural Municipality-4, Phalametar.
The narcotics, stored in 48 plastic sacks, were seized during a search of the premises. Police arrested Hariprasad Ojha, around 40, a resident of Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality-4 who currently operates a hotel in Choubise, and Ashish Bishwakarma, 34, of Choubise Rural Municipality-4.
Police said further investigation into both cases is in progress.
