JANAKPUR, JANUARY 6
Around 213,000 more voters have been registered in Province 2 in the voters list with the photo updating campaign launched by the Election Commission recently.
Of them, 38,344 voters were added in Dhanusha and 29,278 in Siraha.
According to the Province Election Office, Janakpurdham, the number of voters was added under the one-month campaign launched from December 3 to January 2 targeting the election.
Number of people from villages of Dhanusha visiting the Province Election Office of Province 2, Janakpurdham, to register their name, along with photograph, in the voters list is increasing.
Information Officer Krishna Raut said that a large number of people used to gather to have their names enlisted in the voters list in front of the office gate before office time.
Similarly, Chief of Province Election Office, Pushpa Jha, said that around 600 to 700 people visit the office daily to register their names with photographs in the voters' list.
Jha added that the number of people registering their names along with photographs in the voters list had increased as a campaign to collect voters name list was not launched in the local levels since the 2017 election, increasing the number of people returning from abroad as well as others.
Local representatives and political leaders are sending those people that missed registration in the biometric voters' list for getting their names registered.
As Chief Jha said, people's representatives and political parties are concerned about the registration of all eligible people in the voters' name list in view of the upcoming election.
It seems that they do not want any probable voter in their favour to be deprived of opportunity to take part in the election.
With the rise in the voters' number, Dhanusha District Election Office has so far registered the details of 463,397 voters. Earlier, this number was 425,053. The registration campaign was organised in two phases.
Similarly, Siraha District Election Office says it had so far registered 406,972 voters. The registration campaign was organised at all 17 local levels in two rounds for a whole month.
In the 2018 local level election in Siraha, the number of voters was 332,894.
