Over 50 suspects interrogated in case of trader’s murder

Damauli, August 15

Police have intensified investigation in connection with mysterious death of a trader, Shyam Kumar Shahi in Bandipur Rural Municipality of Tanahun.

Shahi, 53, of Dumre in Bandipur RM used to run a grocery in his village. After he went missing from his home on Sunday evening, Shahi’s family filed an application with the police the next morning seeking their help to find him.

His body was found on Monday afternoon near Thuldhunga in Ward No 4 of the same rural municipality with his throat slit and a deep wound on his head. After local fishermen spotted the body, they informed the police about the same.

As per police sources, over 50 persons have been interrogated regarding the incident in the past three days. “It seems to be a murder but we can’t say anything for sure for now. We’re conducting investigation using a sniffer dog,” said District Police Office Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Lilaraj Lamichhane.

“Looking at the body, he seems to have been killed using sharp weapons. We’ve also recovered a pair of sandals, a pair of spectacles and a watch from the incident site and are trying to confirm whether they belong to the dead man,” added the DSP.

Locals suspect that Shahi, who wore gold bracelets, rings and necklace, was killed for jewellery.

On Tuesday, the trader’s family received his body following post-mortem at Damauli Hospital. The family has sought strong punishment for those involved in the murder.

His family received the body after police assured them that a fair probe would be conducted into his death.
