Over half dozen helicopters made safe landing owing to bad weather

KATHMANDU: More than half a dozen helicopters, which had flown to bring the passengers stranded in Lukla since Friday, had to make safe landings at different regions.

It has been reported that as many as eight helicopters made safe landings due to the bad weather, as precaution.

Raju Neupane, Spokesperson of Manang Air confirmed that one of the helicopters that made a safe landing belonged to Manang Air. The chopper landed at Panchkhal in Kavrepalanchok district. Spokesperson Neupane reassured that this was a normal procedure which is followed if weather becomes adverse when a helicopter is in flight.

He further informed that as many as eight helicopters including that of Manang Air made safe landings in various areas around Kavre, Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap and Solukhumbhu districts.

Neupane also dismissed the information that the helicopters made 'emergency' landings. "Helicopters cannot fly above clouds. Due to the bad weather, our helicopter made a safe landing," said Neupane.
