KATHMANDU, AUGUST 31
A group of youths from Palungtar, Gorkha, based in Dallas, Texas, has launched a Rs 3 crore relief and reconstruction fund to support communities affected by the recent floods and landslides in Nepal.
The initiative, led by Palungtar native and Visit Nepal President Rajib Rajbhat, has been launched in collaboration with Youth & Development.
Rajbhat has personally contributed Rs 30 lakh to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund to support immediate search, rescue and medical relief efforts.
The campaign comes as the disaster has also affected the families and communities of the organisers. Rajbhat said his relatives and more than 30 neighbours from Palungtar and Naukhor were among those reported missing or lost while travelling to Gosaikunda for the Janai Purnima pilgrimage.
The initiative, under the banner of the "One Nepali, One Rupee" movement, aims to mobilise wider public support for relief and reconstruction.
According to the organisers, the Rs 3 crore fund will be used in phases in coordination with local authorities, with priority given to rebuilding public infrastructure, restoring healthcare services and supporting the education and welfare of children in Palungtar and neighbouring river corridors.
