Panchthar CCI on verge of split

PHIDIM, July 27

With internal row weighing heavy, the umbrella organisation of the business fraternity is heading towards a split in Panchthar.

Earlier, the dispute had taken roots with the failure of the Working Committee of the Panchthar chapter of Chamber of Commerce and Industry to invite all and sundry members to its review meeting.

A meeting was held on July 18 to review the programmes run by the chamber for the 2014/15 fiscal in the presence of a few top office bearers and founding members, just to irk others.

Sources at the working committee, however, have clarified that their decision to invite only a select few had to do with the decision of the committee about a month ago.

Businesspersons were divided into two groups that accused the committee of ‘discrimination’ by not inviting a significant chunk of businesspersons, including Dipak Nepal, who lost in an election of district convention last year.

Citing the ‘biased attitude’, Nepal and his supporters, including former chamber chairperson Subaraj Thapa and Founding Secretary

Tulasiraj Mishra demanded that the working committee summon a special general assembly.
