PHIDIM: A Grade II student was physically tortured by the principal of her school for "bad handwriting" at Tharpu-2 of Panchthar district.

Ishwari Prasad Sapkota, principal of Sunrise Boarding School in the district, had reportedly beaten his student Dil Maya Bista black and blue for her illegible handwriting on Tuesday.

According to the students, Sapkota had thrashed the victim with a bamboo stick.

Bista has wounds on her hands, legs and neck, said police.

Meanwhile, Sapkota was arrested after guardians logged a complaint against him.

If convicted, the arrestee would face punishment as per the Public (Crime and Punishment) Act, 1970, said police.

Further investigation is underway.
