Panic over outbreak of rabies
DADELDHURA: Panic has spread in Asigram village development committee in Dadeldhura district after a teenage girl, who was bitten by a dog infected with rabies three months back, died last week.
A team of health workers led by Dr Jivan Chhetri of Dadeldhura District Hospital reached the site recently to give anti rabies vaccine to six suspected patients. The team said that over 100 people had contracted the disease. Dr Chhetri said they would bring the vaccine from Dhangadi and give it to the other patients as there was lack of anti rabies vaccine in the district.”
Devaki Mahat, 18, a resident of Matkatte of Asigram-3 was bitten by a dog two months back. No symptoms of the disease were seen in her before she was admitted to the hospital two weeks before her death. “Rabies panic has spread in the village after four mad dogs died in the village recently,” a local Nabin Mahat said.
