Birgunj, January 12

District Administration Office, Parsa, today sealed over a dozen medical shops operating illegally on the premises of Birgunj-based Narayani Sub-regional Hospital.

Fourteen medical shops were sealed in line with the Supreme Court’s two year old ruling that prohibits private medical shops from operating on premises of government hospitals. Besides, one grocery shop and a sweet meat shop were also sealed.

“As they didn’t heed our frequent calls to evacuate, we had to take action,” said CDO Binod Prakash Singh, adding that Wednesday was the final deadline for the shops to evacuate. It has also been learnt that the medical shops thus operating illegally on the hospital premises were not renewed for the past three years. The hospital had brought into operation its own medical shop about three months ago.

Aftab Medical, Prabhat Medical Hall, Narayani Pharmacy, Surabhi Pharmacy, Aryal Medical, Hamro Medical, Roshan Pharmacy were among the medical shops that faced the crackdown of the administration.
