Parties hold protest rallies

The seven agitating political parties today staged a protest rally in Narayangarh demanding restoration of total democracy. The protest rally that started from Lions Chowk converged
into a corner meeting at Pulchowk. The rallyists chanted slogans against the government and in favour of democracy. Leaders of various political parties addressed the meeting. The seven parties held a protest rally in Kalaiya of Bara district, too. Meanwhile, in Kathmandu,the Green Party Nepal (GNP) today urged King Gyanendra to be ready to give executive powers to political parties. “It is not right that the King hold on to executive powers,” the GNP said.
“Political parties, however, have to create an environment for the withdrawal of executive powers held by the King,” president of GNP, Pushpa Prasad Luitel, said in a press release. He added that the King should be ready to relinquish executive powers. Luintel also said the King and the political parties should be ready to reconcile.
