Parties preparing for second phase of polls in Morang

Political parties in Morang have started preparations to finalise their candidates for the second phase of the civic polls slated for June 31.

The parties are working hard to decide their candidates before May 24. Preparation is under way to choose the best candidate in the district’s single sub-metropolis, eight municipalities, and eight rural municipalities for the upcoming civic polls.

Nepali Congress has already announced its candidates in Patharisanischare Municipality and Keraberi Rural Municipality. Nepali Congress Morang President Dik Bahadur Limbu said that Ganesh Khadka and Pramila Rai will run for mayor and deputy mayor from the NC in Patharisanischare Municipality, while Rohit Karki will run for chairperson of Keraberi Rural Municipality. “The name list of all candidates for all local levels will be finalised before May 24,” he added.

The CPN-Maoist Centre District Committee has reportedly almost finalised its candidates at all levels for the civic poll in Morang.

In-charge Kushal Limbu said candidates for all except four local levels have been finalised. Limbu said that a door-to-door election campaign has also been launched in the district.

District Chairperson of the CPN-UML Binod Dhakal said that they were finalising the party’s candidates in all local levels of the district. “We have been holding discussions on the name list recommended by the local levels to finalise the candidates,” he informed. Dhakal added that the name list would be finalised within some days.

Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party has also been working to finalise its candidates for the June 31 election in Morang.

Madhav Acharya, chairperson of RPP, Morang, said that the candidates for all local levels will be finalised within three days.

Likewise, Chairperson of Democratic Forum Nepal Muktinath Majhi said that the party would finalise the candidates soon. Rastriya Janata Party has also been launching election campaigns, while Federal Socialist Forum Nepal and Naya Shakti Nepal have formed an alliance and are working to finalise their candidates.

But, Morang Chairperson Mohammad Kadir of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal said that his party would not take part in the civic polls without constitution amendment.
