Parties should learn from Russian statute: Ex-envoy

Former Nepali ambassador to Russia Hiranya Lal Shrestha today said political parties and leaders should learn from the constitutional development of Russia.
Addressing a programme on Russian constitution, he said that the constitution of Russian Federation is a document of successful transition from one-party political system to multi-party democracy and also of successful management of ethnic diversity and multilingualism.
“The world can benefit if the democracy sustains in Russia because the country always stands against dictatorship of a particular country and at the same time seeks world’s opinion to resolve regional misunderstanding and to helps protect a country’s internal affair from direct interference by another country,” he said.
Former ambassador to France Keshav Raj Jha said that Russia’s present constitutional development shows that the political leaders should first abandon greed for positions if they really want to see the country’s political evolution.
“We should learn that dedication of some political forces is important to make the most benefit of the constitution,” he said.
Dr Ramesh Kumar Shrestha, a scholar on Nepal-Russia relationship said that Nepal should learn from the Russian way of resolving ethnic violence.
Bhagwan Ratna Tuladhar chairman of Nepal-Russia Friendship Association said that Russia followed all-out proportional representation electoral system to manage the ethnic, religious and language issues in the country.
