Parties start canvassing in Siraha

Political parties in Siraha are involved in election publicity campaign for the upcoming local level election slated for September 18 in Province 2 even though the parties are yet to finalise their candidates.

Different political parties and their cadres have been organising door-to-door election campaign seeking votes at meetings and discussions in the district.

Nepali Congress has started door-to-door campaigning and has been holding meetings with voters albeit without candidates for major posts.

Ward chair aspirants have been organising election related activities though the NC has not yet finalised the mayoral and deputy mayoral candidates of municipalities and rural municipalities till date.

The major political parties have yet to finalise mayoral, deputy mayoral and chairman and vice chairman candidates in Lahan, Dhangadi, Gol Bazaar, Sukhipur, Mirchaiya, Siraha, Kajarnha and Kalyanpur Municipalities along with Bhagawanpur, Nawarajpur, Bariyarpatti, Aaurahi, Bishnupur, Laxmipur Patari, Naraha, Sakhuwankarkatti and Aarna rural municipalities.

Nepali Congress district president Ram Chandra Yadav said the party has yet to finalise the candidates as there were many aspirant candidates for the posts in the party. “Local level leaders and cadres of the party were directed to launch election related activities even though the party had not finalised the candidates,” he informed.

CPN-UML has already made its candidates public in 15 local levels out of 17 in the district. The UML’s district secretary Yogendra Singh said that they have been holding discussion to finalise the candidates in the remaining places soon. The leaders and cadres of the UML have been organising meetings, rallies and discussion in bazaars and chowks, among other places.

Similarly, CPN-Maoist Centre has also started holding meetings, door-to-door campaign and other election related activities with its probable candidates for mayoral, deputy mayoral, chair and vice-chair posts though the party has yet to make the candidates public.

The probable candidate for mayor and deputy mayor Devnath Sah and Resham Kumari Thapa respectively and all ward chairpersons in Gol Bazaar Municipality have launched a door-to-door campaign from August 30.

The CPN-MC election publicity committee said that the party’s election publicity has reached all the wards along with the party’s mayoral candidate Hari Narayan Chaudhary and deputy mayoral candidate Phul Kumari Tamang in Dhangadimai Municipality.

Likewise, Upendra Yadav-led Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal, Bijaya Gachhadar-led Nepal Democratic Forum and Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal are also involved in election publicity campaigns in the district.

The parties have deployed leaders and cadres for the same.

There are 331,569 voters in eight municipalities and nine rural municipalities of Siraha.

District Election Office, Siraha, said 426 voting centres and 221 polling booths will be set up in the district.
