People compelled to consume unhygineic meat
SIRAHA: Meat consumers in the district have been compelled to consume unhygienic meat due to the lack of managed slaughterhouses across the district. Slaughter wastes have been escalating in major hubs of the district including Golbazaar, Mirchaiya, Choharwa, Dhangadi, Chapari, Bishnupur and Lahan.
Harishchandra Jha, acting chief, Siraha Municipality, said that it was the responsibility of the district livestock office to develop managed slaughterhouses. Kamalesh Kumar Yadav, a meat consumer, said that the authorities concerned were not serious enough towards consumers' health. He said, "The authorities concerned should manage safe and hygienic slaughterhouses."
Another meat consumer Binod Bishunkhe said that the authorities concerned have not taken any steps towards managing hygienic slaughterhouses in the district. Doctor Satya Narayan Yadav of Area Health Office Golbazaar said the openly sold meat is hazardous for health.
Engineer Satrughan Prasad Chaudhari of Lahan Municipality said that a
slaughterhouse was constructed in Lahan four years ago, however, it has not come into operation yet.
Saying that constructing slaughterhouses was municipality's responsibility, Chief at District Life Stock Office, Mohamaad Mustak, said, "We are ready to manage the slaughterhouses if the municipality constructs them."
